GREAT WHITE SHARK 3D OPENS IN AUSTRALIA, JUST AS CONTROVERSIAL SHARK CULL BEGINS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Great White Shark is now playing in both Sydney and Melbourne’s Imax theatres, and William Winram, one of the featured free divers and shark researchers in the movie, was there to promote the opening. It was a whistle stop tour for him, his first visit to Australia, and there was a lot of press coverage… because sharks are a popular topic in Australia…
Here’s a quote from his interview for Impulse Gamer
Lastly William, what was the highlight of the film for you?
As one viewer said to me in Montreal where we launched the film said, I’m here because my wife is a shark nut and I never really cared about sharks, particualry the great white as I’ve seen Jaws. And he said but god, I love this film and we’re going to bring our kids back. I love these things, they are amazing, I’ve never would have thought that you could say they are beautiful. The guy was getting really excited about and was not a fan of sharks prior to seeing the film. He changed.
A video interview for International Business Times:
An ABC radio interview:
Because the Western Australian government has begun culling Bull, Tiger and Great White Sharks, in response to an increase in shark related incidents. The hope is to encourage tourism… sound familiar? If anything was learned from Jaws, surely it was that killing sharks didn’t get more people in the water…
